From September 7th toDecember 7th, 2016 Mendoza´s airport El Plumerillo, will be closed for renovation.

Mendoza´s temporary closure of the airport due to remodeling and expansion of  both its track and beacons, is a preliminary and necessary step to give the province greater air connectivity.

We are working to ensure that the closure of the  airport will not discourage tourists from visiting  us in the spring, the season in which the pleasant temperatures allows enjoyment of  the natural landscapes, the oasis cities and world-renowned wines.

 

Flights

The flights offered by Aerolíneas Argentinas, Latam Argentina and Latam Chile have been rerouted to the closest airports, each located approximately three hours away: San Juan (UAQ), San Luis (LUQ) and San Rafael (AFA).

    • All Latam airline flights from Santiago to Mendoza have been rerouted  to San Juan (UAQ) during the closure of the airport (Sept 7 to Dic 7, 2016) For reasonable prices, it is advisable to book in advance.
    • GOL airline flights connecting Mendoza to San Pablo will not operate while the airport is under repair.

 

Alternative airports

The nearest airport is located in the neighboring province of San Juan, two hours to the north of the city of Mendoza. National Route 40 connects San Juan and Mendoza, offering a view of the Andes mountain range,  at its gratest heights, known as the “seismiles”, where many of the mounts are over 6,000 mts. high.

This beautiful landscape can be appreciated during the whole 232  kilometers of the iconic National Route 40 that links Mendoza to San Rafael, one of the  most important tourist destinations with unique landscapes such as the Cañón del Atuel.

Some flights have been rerouted to the San Luis airport. The capital of the neighboring province is located 250 km east of Mendoza, situated along one of the better developed and well lit sections of National Route 7.

 

Complimentary shuttle bus

Free Shuttle Bus to/from the alternative airports to Mendoza.

Passengers will have access to a complimentary shuttle service connecting the three airports to the Mendoza bus terminal, located in the heart of the Mendoza`s capital city.

Passengers will need to present their flight ticket in any of its forms – electronic, paper or digital.

The shuttle bus will be labelled with the flight number. It is recommended to arrive at the bus terminal 5.5 hours before the actual flight departure time.

Passenger service

The free shuttle bus that will take passengers to alternative airports departs from docks 1 to 5, located at the end of the south part of the east wing of the bus terminal. In this area you will find a waiting room for the passengers and staff assistance provided by the provincial government. There will be an information desk at the airports of San Juan and San Luis, as well.

The bus terminal is serviced by legally authorized and regulated trasportation services such as taxis or public buses you can use to reach your final destination: your hotel, home or meeting place.

For private transfers to and from alternative airports  from Mendoza, ask your travel agent.

The government of the Mendoza province recommends verifying  that the vehicle you hire is autohorized for interjurisdictional transfers according to national regulations of the CNRT – Comisión Nacional de Regulación de Transporte -.

Access to the shuttles from the terminal will be permitted through the east wing of the parking lot. Pick up and drop off only.

Parking private vehicles in the bus terminal parking lot will not be allowed.

 

Other travel options

Other travel options to/from Mendoza

For those who travel from abroad, Santiago (SCL), the capital city of the neighboring country of Chile, offers one of the most important hub airports in the region.

From the bus terminal, there are several bus companies that go from Santiago to Mendoza  through a beautiful mountains landscape following the National Route 60 in Chile and 7 in Argentina. Unique places like Puente del Inca, the Penintentes ski center and the highest mountain of the Americas, the Aconcagua (6959 m.a.s.l.) can be appreciated just after going through the international customs Los Libertadores.

450 km separates Santiago from Mendoza. It takes around 6  hours by car or bus, depending on the customs procedures.

The bus companies that operate between Santiago and Mendoza are: Andesmar, CATA Internacional, Coitram, El Rápido SRL, Nevada Internacional, Ahumada, Chiar, Chile Bus, Fénix, O’Higgins, Radio Móvil, Tas Choapa, Tur Bus.

The bus tickets can be bought online up to 30 days before departure.

Domestic and International road transport services

Mendoza has a privileged geographical position since it is located in the central area of the country, 1100 km from the capital city of Argentina and 370 km from Santiago, Chile. A large network of routes connects Mendoza not only to important cities within the country but to South America as well. It is crossed by the two main routes: National Route 7, known as the Bioceanic Corridor, which links Mendoza to Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires and National Route 40, a 5000 kilometre- long route that crosses the whole country from the northern Bolivia border to the south end.

Bus tours are very comfortable in Argentina. The semi – cama class buses offer comfortable seats. There are leg supports when seats are reclined. The service includes snacks and drinks. The cama – executive buses have fully reclinable seats and personnel assistance for your journey.
